At HellermannTyton, we understand sustainability to be a fundamental characteristic of the high industrial quality for which our brand is known. This is reflected in the actions of the people who work at the company. Below are examples of how our sustainability strategy is bearing fruit.
Putting waste to good use
HellermannTyton North America collaborated with the Ford Motor Company to develop and manufacture a clip from 100% recycled ocean plastics for the Ford Bronco™ Sport.
The small part had a big impact when it won first place in the environmental category at the 50th SPE Automotive Innovation Awards.
The team persevered despite the challenges, believing in the long-term impact of such pioneering projects. The success is inspiring us to further explore recycled plastic materials and polymers derived from non-petroleum sources.
Reducing component weight
Not just wiring harnesses, but many other components need to be securely mounted and fastened to the chassis of a vehicle.
HellermannTyton engineers are very experienced at replacing heavier metal components with lightweight alternatives made from high-performance thermoplastics.
In this example, we were able to reduce the weight of a bracket for a hydraulic ABS/ESP control unit by over 70% for our automotive customer.
We also successfully manufacture such production parts from recycled materials.
Focus on wellbeing
From World Bee Day and tips on healthy habits, to donating blood or taking on fitness challenges, HellermannTyton employees from around the EMEA Region took part in a variety of activities organised at their local workplaces.
It was easy to join in, and the high response from the volunteers in the first two years was so encouraging, that wellbeing weeks are now an annual feature in the diary.
Reuse means less waste
Multiple-use products contribute to a reduction in waste, and the energy consumption typically used to create plastic materials and then transform them into products.
Products designed for reuse help decrease the need for manufacturing of single-use products and their recycling.
At HellermannTyton, we advise on which of our products meet their needs with the least environmental impact.
Use only what you need
In the 1990s we began automating cable tying tools for industrial processes. 30 years later, we still lead the market with the specialised Automatic Tying System (ATS).
Unlike processing of conventional cable ties, the ATS feeds the strap and closure head separately, using only the precise amount of strap required for the bundle diameter.
This enables our customers to bundle their cables or packaging without any strap wastage.
