Why Polyamide 11 (PA11)?

Choosing bio‑based PA11 supports sustainability goals and can improve the project’s carbon footprint.

This cost-effective polymer is derived from castor oil, a renewable, plant-based resource,

that does not compete with land designated for growing food crops.

It also offers excellent resistance to a wide range of environmental conditions exceeding the performance of many other conventional plastics:

  • UV stability
  • low‑hygroscopic behavior—ideal for long service life and lower maintenance
  • excellent salt (i.e. zinc chloride) and chemical g resistance - efficient solution for coastal regions, floating PV and agrivoltaic installations
  • lower sensitivity to humidity, suitable for installation in very dry regions, such as deserts and water sprayed agrivoltaics
  • has excellent temperature resistance and dimensional stability, coupled with high flexibility even at low temperatures

 

PA11 requires a higher initial investment because it is more expensive than many other polyamides, but
the return on investment over the long term makes it more cost-efficient than standard plastics unsuited to harsh conditions and needs less replacement cycles, ultimately not landing in the waste stream.

PA11 shifts the debate between metal and plastic squarely in favour of plastic, because wrongly applied metal parts are causing many issues with inverter grounding faults on the DC side in the field.

Furthermore, lower material density compared to metal results in less weight and resource savings due to less material weight being trucked to the installation site.

The QwicGrip mount attaches easily with a UV-stabilised cable tie or metal tie and securely holds two cables (Ø 5.2–8 mm/4-6mm²), which are simply pushed into place, speeding up installation while protecting the cables from strain and abrasion.

Our MC4 Connector clip for edge/connector

MC4 connector holder

The SPC-DEC1-3SP holder, designed for MC4 and comparable solar connectors, prevents excessive cable bending and kinking. Embedding the solar connector into the holder, it helps protect connection integrity and reduce downtime over the system lifetime. With two integrated EdgeClips, the holder easily pushes on to standard aluminium profile edges from 1.0–3.0 mm. The solar connector can be removed and reattached for service access.

Can protection through solar panels mitigate the effects of climate change on viticulture and even make wine production more sustainable? 
Hochschule Geisenheim University along the Rhine River in Hessen, Germany, addresses these questions in the “VitiVoltaic“ project. Solar panels are installed above a vineyard to generate electricity while grapes are grown underneath.
Because the solar panels are installed at a height of 3.5 to 4 meters with no solid ground beneath them it is important to install very durable solutions, so that later on, during operation, they ultimately require little to no maintenance.
